Crannog
Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland, 1995

Crannogs are small islands, which may be man-made, and which have been fortified. They are common in Scotland and Ireland, and have been used from the Iron Age right up to late Medieval times.

This one at Lough na Crannagh probably dates back to the Iron Age, and is in the territory of a tribe called the Scots, who migrated to the northern part of Britain, and gave their name and language to their new homeland.
