Inverness-shire, Scotland, 1994
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Britain. There is an easy walking route to the summit, but great care is required to avoid taking a short-cut down, via the North Face.
In most years, snow lingers until August or September, and appears again in October or November.
In present climatic conditions, if Ben Nevis were 100 metres higher, snow falling throughout the year would exceed the amount lost during the summer, and a glacier would form.
