At just under 500m above sea level, Loch Enoch lies below the eastern slopes of Merrick, the highest hill in Galloway Forest Park, which was designated an International Dark Sky Park in 2009. This view to the south includes part of the Milky Way, and the bright glow on the right is from the lights of Newton Stewart.
