Loch Skeen in the Moffat Hills is at an altitude of just over 500m above sea level, and its outlet stream feeds the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall. Britain’s rarest freshwater fish, the vendace, was reintroduced to Loch Skeen in the 1990s, with fish from Derwentwater in the English Lake District.
