Southern and southwestern skies in Galloway remained clear during the early hours of 21 January 2019, for the total lunar eclipse. During totality the Moon only receives sunlight which has been refracted through the Earth’s atmosphere, and appears red because of the scattering of shorter wavelengths of light.
