Mull of Galloway Lighthouse

Perched on the southern tip of Scotland, the Mull of Galloway lighthouse was built two centuries ago by Robert Stevenson. The author Robert Louis Stevenson wrote that his grandfather “seems to have been possessed with a demon of activity in travel” adding that before his heroic feats of engineering “the extended and formidable coast of Scotland was lighted at a single point - the Isle of May, in the jaws of the Firth of Forth” so that Scotland “was shunned by sea-going vessels, and the favourite courses were north about Shetland and west about St. Kilda.”
