The eclipse of 11th August 1999 had an area of totality which just touched the extreme south west of England. It's the only total solar eclipse to cover any part of Britain or Ireland during my lifetime. I was all set for a long overnight drive, but in the light of the weather forecasts for Cornwall and Cheshire, I decided to stay at home. A good view of a partial eclipse beats no view of a total eclipse. I was unable to stick precisely to the intended intervals between frames because of intermittent cloud, so I just shot the Sun when I could see it. Looking at this picture now, I quite like the effect of the clouds, though that's not what I was saying at the time.
