Red squirrel jumping towards the camera, which was triggered by a home-made gizmo which trips the shutter for a single exposure as the squirrel flies through a beam of light. Both the squirrel and the background, a stone wall covered in moss and ferns, are illuminated by a very brief flash of light from adapted flashguns. Precise timing is necessary, together with a little luck, because a squirrel travelling at between 2 and 3 metres per second passes through the approximately 5mm plane of sharp focus in about 1/500 second.
